Why I Created Atmosphere

I never thought about atmosphere before. I just knew I loved the way a room could make me feel. It's funny because I didn't even realize I was paying attention to it. I just knew there were certain places I'd walk into and immediately think, "Yeah... I can kick it in here for a minute." Shit, one of my really good friends, Danielle, her apartment made me feel like that every time I went over there. I couldn't have told you exactly why back then, but looking at it now, it was all the little things.

From the lighting to the music to the coffee-table books to the little things people choose to keep around. Somehow it all works together to make you want to stay just a little longer. Especially when there's a candle. For me, it was almost always the candle.

Whenever I'd invite people over, I'd light one. Romantic? Sure. But honestly, that wasn't really why. It just made the room feel calmer, warmer, more inviting. People slowed down without even realizing it. The conversations lasted longer. Nobody was really in a rush to leave. Over time, I started paying attention to that feeling. And once I started paying attention to it, I couldn't stop.

I'd travel somewhere new, and somehow the atmosphere would grab my attention and make me slow down enough to notice the details. I'd go to a restaurant and notice the music before I noticed the menu. I'd walk into a hotel lobby and notice how it was scented and whether there were candles around. I started realizing that all of my favorite places had something in common. They weren't always fancy or the most expensive. They just made you feel something. To be honest, I've been in some fancy, luxurious spaces that completely missed the mark when it came to atmosphere.

That's when I started asking myself: Why did some places make you want to stay, while others made you want to leave?

The more I paid attention, the more I realized it was never just one thing. It was the combination of all these little details, including the ones people probably walked right past. Together, they created a feeling. And I wanted to know if I could create that feeling myself.

That's Really Where Honey Dryp Began

Not because I woke up one day and decided to start a candle company. Well, maybe a little bit of that. I wanted my own custom candle, but I also wanted to create that feeling in my own space. I wanted people to walk into my home and immediately know they were somewhere intentional. Somewhere warm and inviting.

So I started learning, researching, and testing fragrances. I mixed scents that probably should've never been mixed and burned more candles than I'd like to admit. Some were terrible. Some were surprisingly good. Some taught me exactly what not to do. Heavy on the what not to do.

At first, I really was just trying to create my own candle. I wanted a signature scent that felt like home. Something that felt like me. Something that didn't smell like I had just grabbed a candle from Bath & Body Works and called it a day.

Then somewhere in the middle of all that trial and error, something clicked. What started as me trying to create my own signature candle had turned into something bigger.

I realized I wasn't just creating a candle. I was creating atmosphere.

The more I learned, the more I realized candles were the perfect place to begin.

What I love about candles is how they can change multiple parts of a space at once. The scent. The lighting. Even the pace of a room, without asking much from you. You light it, and BOOM, the space feels a little different.

That’s when I knew Honey Dryp would begin with candles. Not because they were the end goal, but because they were the first expression of everything I wanted people to feel.

The Atmosphere That Lingers Beyond the Moment

Candles have always been part of our lives. We just don't always stop to think about it. They're there during some of life's biggest moments and some of its quietest ones. Birthday dinners. Date nights. Holidays. Saturday cleanups. Slow Sunday mornings. Rainy days with the window open. And if the lights go out, well, now they're keeping the room lit too. So yeah, they're kind of important and dope. Lol.

And then there's the scent.

That's the wild part. Sometimes the scent from those everyday moments sticks with you long after the moment itself is gone. Something as simple as a smell can completely change the way we experience a moment. Even crazier, scent can make you time travel.

One smell and suddenly you're back in your mom's house as a little kid. On vacation. At your first apartment. Sitting across from someone you haven't thought about in years. A single scent can unlock a memory you forgot you even had. And when that memory comes back, so does the atmosphere.

That’s Why I Created Honey Dryp

I wanted to create the same feeling I’d been chasing for years.

In a world that requires you to move fast, I think we all deserve a space that allows us to slow down and reflect on the moments that mean the most.

The way I experience atmosphere has made my life feel richer.

I hope that, in some small way, Honey Dryp helps make yours feel a little richer too.
